Choosing the Right Electrician in Rwanda

Electrical work done badly is dangerous — fires, shocks, and equipment damage are all real consequences of poor workmanship. In Rwanda's growing construction market, it's more important than ever to know how to choose a qualified electrician. Here's what to look for.

1. Check for REG Registration

The Rwanda Energy Group (REG) requires electricians to be registered before carrying out electrical installation work. Always ask for proof of registration. A legitimate electrician will have no hesitation showing you their credentials.

2. Ask for a Written Quote

Any professional electrician should be able to provide a written quote that breaks down materials and labour separately. Vague verbal quotes lead to disagreements and unexpected costs. If they can't give you a written quote, walk away.

Red flag: "I'll tell you the price when I see it." A professional can give you a detailed quote before starting — insist on it.

3. Check Their Previous Work

Ask for references or examples of previous similar projects. A residential wiring job and an industrial panel installation require very different skills — make sure the electrician has relevant experience for your specific job.
